Nach Atemu's Abschied kehren Yugi Mutou und seine Freunde in den Schulalltag zurück.
Was von aussen wie Normalität aussieht, fühlt sich für Yugi leer und schwer an.
Während Prüfungen, Erwartungen und alltägliche Gespräche weiterlaufen, beginnt er innerlich zu zerbrechen:

It had become somewhat of a tradition—every date would end with a nightcap at Duo’s place, and the nightcap was always some variation of hot chocolate, in honor of Heero’s favorite order at the coffee shop Duo worked at. Some had been more popular than others (hot cocoa bombs had been a total bust), but mostly they had gone well.

It was date number… five? maybe six? now, and Duo was sure he had a winner for the night.
